Felicia's Best Friend's Birthday Party

Dear All

Attended Felicia's best friend's birthday party last Sat. According to Felicia, her friend had invited 100+ guests! Wow, what a massive party planning task for her mum!! I heard her mum organised 15 games and took 1.5 months to plan...and she said the party wasn't well prepared as she needs more than 1.5 months to prepare!!

There was pinata and it was a very cute white unicorn. It was such a pity that when it was time to play it, a little girl excitedly and accidently pulled on it and the body was detached from the head and all the goodies fell out. My heart went out to the mother as you can see she was so so very disappointed...I believe she made the pinata herself, and it looked so professional like from ToyRUs shop. Another disappointment was the lights didn't come on after the cake cutting, so the parents couldn't take photos with their daughter. Luckily, since the cake was an ice-cream cake, and took quite some time to cut, the lights came back on and I told Terrence (the father) to quickly get his wife and daughter together with the cake for photo taking. They normally take it with their daughter and there usually was one with her friends, but this year all her friends had already scattered to play :(

Anyway, most importantly, the birthday girl didn't bother about such things..afterall, she's only turned 9, so her priority was to play and have fun and of course, get many birthday presents!

Felicia had a ball of a time and I was happy that this year, she participated in the games and both she and her friend tried to get on the same team instead of competiting with each other. They soon discovered, after playing about 3 games, not to queue next to each other, otherwise they won't end up in the same team! They have grown so much since primary 2. Then, they just queued next to each other and wondered why they didn't get into the same team...at least this year they are a bit wiser ;)

Now Felicia has TOO many sweets!!! The PE teacher would be chiding me when school reopens next week for letting Felicia put on so much weight! Must hide the sweets!!

Watched Hannah Montana Movie!

Dear All

We watched Hannah Montana the Movie today...verdict...GREAT! I had promised the girls a movie this hols, and asked them to check with their friends which is the "best", so before the movie run is over, we caught the ONLY show for today!

It's unlike the series, and though the movie title sounds boring, never judge the book by its cover...the story is touching and the songs are very nice :) I intend to get the CD when it's out. So if you haven't seen it yet, best to catch it before its run is over. The cinema effect is much better than watching it on your TV later on.

The 2 girls enjoyed themselves and I was glad I had decided to join them for the movie. To top it off, we won 2 Star Cruise vouchers - each voucher is for 2 pax for the price of 1 cruise to either a 3 day package or 4 day package to Phuket or Langkawi or Penang during Nov-Dec hols! Talk about never travel much to now going to travel again in Dec and all in the same year!

After that, we went to shop for Felicia's birthday present...a great new boardgame called Pictureka. Feli couldn't wait to play the game, so I played with her this evening. It was really fun. Suitable for kids aged 6+ onwards and needs minimum 2 persons to play. What's more, it cost just $49.95 (boardgames like Hasbro cost at least $60+) as it was a newly launched game. We saw the demo and thought it was fun...even Tiffy thought so too. And you know what's the icing on top of the cake? We won 2 vouchers at the lucky spin...a $5 capita voucher and a $10 Isetan voucher....Bert commented "Hmmm...you guys on a winning spree?" I guess that's better than on a spending spree right? But later on, need to spend ALOT just to redeem these vouchers ;(

Back Home from Hols!

Dear All

We have touched down safely in Singapore on Wed morning. I was so worried about the flying parts of the trip. Luckily, all went well during the entire 7 days holiday.

We had just spent the last 7 days in Surfers Paradise...another name for the Gold Coast so named because even during winter there's still sunlight however the sun sets very early at around 5+pm. This place is also called the Sunshine State.

This holiday package is really value for money...we got free home to airport and return transfers as well as hotel to theme parks return transfers. So no need to worry about moving between hotels to destinations. We managed to cover most of the attractions in each of the theme parks but decided to skip the Whitewater park because it is a wet-ride park and it's too cold even in the day. We were like wrapped up like rice dumplings...thick T-shirts with long pants and wind-breakers! We were so cold that we had to buy gloves just to keep our hands warm! So much for we warm-blooded Singaporeans.

Surprisingly, we all can hit the sack by 8+pm!! The weather was so cold at night that if we don't sleep with socks on and wind-breakers on, and even with gloves on, we can't sleep through the night! But the next morning when the sun is still not that strong and the wind is chilly, the windbreakers and gloves remain on us!! Only later in the day can we venture to remove these clothing items.

Bert had noted that we have basically seen most of the Sunshine coast. Tiffany was excited that she managed to see a joey peeping and hiding back in the pouch of a wallaby (a smaller kind of kangaroo) during our tallship excursion to South Stradford island (I think that's the correct name of the island). We sailed on a yatch that had a pirate flag!! Alright! Luckily we were not shot at ;) The other highlights of the trip was sand toboganning which started kinda scary for us...who wants to have sand in their face whilst laying on your belly on a surfboard and surfing down a sand dune? Then we decided to sit on the board and found it quite fun. It was difficult to climb up the slope of the dune as the sand was soft like those found on the beach, so it was a good workout for us...we had to tear off our wind-breakers because we felt so hot from all that exersion! The last highlight was of course the eagle-feeding. It was so exhilarating to see seagulls and eagles swooping down to us as the crew threw pieces of sausages into the air!

The girls also enjoyed the life shows at the theme parks, especially Spongebob Squarepants. The girls love the characters from the movie. Felicia also enjoyed the Sesame Street show. For us grown ups, we loved the 45 min show in Dreamworld on space journey to the Discovery Lab.

The 4-D shows like Shrek was pretty good but a little short...you can get similar ones at Sentosa nowadays. This time I felt the effect of the spiders running about my legs but I somehow missed the air blowing in my ears as I believe I had my head away from the seat as I didn't know when it would be bouncing and lurching forward again whenever the horses started to run! I didn't want to bump my head as I had done before during a bump car ride in Singapore and my ears hurt quite badly then.

We skipped most of the thriller rides as they were either too dangerous, too gravity defying, or having 360 degree loops! As long as Tiffany doesn't want to go, we don't go either. Some of the rides on the last day which was at Movieworld, had the protective bars too tight that when it jerked, my tummy crashed into it. I was so afraid when my tummy felt bruised later on as you know, I had my IUD inserted just 2 months ago. I'm afraid it was dislodged and pierce the insides of my womb. Fortunately there's no bleeding and the bruise is gone :)

This is the first time the kids have gone to a non-Asian country and the first time they had taken a plane. They dislike the long and boring journey on the plane, however, they enjoyed the movies and PC games. I've managed to catch 4 - 5 movies (Slumdog Millionaire, Confessions of a Shopaholic, Watchmen, Race to Witch Mountain, The Day the World Stood Still). Surprisingly, I enjoyed the first 2 films the most. Slumdog was watched on the way to Oz and the rest on the way back to Singapore!

This trip was more of the fun fun trip with lots of playing and makan. We didn't get to see great scenery. We were surprised and kinda disappointed that the sea wasn't clean and clear like in Tioman. Bert intends to bring the family to Tioman next time where the girls could experience seeing for themselves how clear the sea waters can be! The last time we went there was like in 1994 or 95 before Tiffany was born!!

Pictures would be posted later, so keep on checking whenever you are "free"!
