Ways of keeping ants away from your home....

Although ants can be a nuisance to us in our home environment, but they are actually quite important to the nature as they help maintain the balance of the ecological system in the soil, they too help in soil aeration through their burrowing etc...but they should be in the right places for most of the time and not in our homes...

So, following are some of the ways to keep them at bay, remember we try not to kill them altogether but to keep them at bay and here is how, it works for us and would like to share them with you:

Method 1 - Black pepper powder (the darker the better..this one is from NTUC at $2.50)

Sprinkle this along the boundaries of your home like e.g. along the windows, crevices etc

Trust me, it works! It will not kill the ants but for sure they will not come and visit your home.

Method 2 - Cinnamon powder (if have difficulty finding powder, cinnamon sticks is also effective)

Method 3 - Cayenne powder (Personally I have not seen this, if you come across this, share it with us here in this blog)

Method 4 - Vinegar (chemical name is Acetic acid)

Word of caution: Like all other acids, it is rather corrosive

Method 5 - Sprinkle chilli powder along the strategic locations of your home

If you die, die, must use an ant bait, be sure you remove the ant bait and store it away after you notice that there is reduction in the number of ants (usually the first few days will attract a good number of ants to the bait and then after 1 week or so the number of ants will reduce...very effective..most of them will be killed) coz if you do not remove the ant bait, it will attract another colony of ants again and the whole cycle repeat itself again. Remember, keep away the ant bait from food as it is afterall a chemical.

I personally have tried Method 1 and until now lately there is not a single ant in our house....+ the smell of the black pepper makes you think of black pepper steak, black pepper chicken, black pepper pork rib like this one here below:.......mmmmmmmm...yum!yum!

It is such a nice day out there, sunny, blue skies and everything nice....I can't forgive myself having to work on this beautiful day that the Lord has created....will go for a run at YCK this evening!
